Presentation of the Course

Overview

This unique three-year degree course was created in 2001; it aims is to stimulate a process of didactic innovation in line with the university reform and the demands of the labour market. The course is specifically designed to train cultural professionals to plan and manage events in the field of entertainment and arts. The skills that will be developed over the course can be applied to different technical specializations, but it is required to have general knowledge of the disciplines of theatre, cinema, music, and art. These are the main sectors of the degree course that will be examined with a historical approach, but also devoting attention to the contemporary art world. Students will also cover Economics, IT, and legal disciplines in order to develop appropriate theoretical knowledge for their chosen field.
Pro.Ge.A.S graduates will be able to fully understand the cultural and artistic fields relying on their knowledge of Italian and European legal and economic framework; they will also possess up-to-date communication instruments (IT and English language), as well as written and oral communication skills.  The course works in partnership with a range of arts organisations, public bodies, foundations, theatres, and museums that organize shows and artistic events; this will lead Pro.Ge.A.S. students to benefit from coherent and structured training.

Career prospects

The labour market our graduates are skilled for is constantly evolving in both the public and private sectors. In Italy, particularly in Tuscany, the cultural and artistic events promoted by institutions, museums, tourist bodies, local administrations, and private organizations represent a vital part of the national economy. Cultural professionals in a variety of contexts are urgently needed.
Alongside the traditional production and distribution centres for arts and entertainment, new institutions have spread throughout the territory. Local communities, in agreement with several institutions, aim at enhancing their cultural heritage using the specialised skills developed in this degree course. Theatres, museums, culture offices, schools, and art-house cinemas deal with event planning and management therefore they need expert and qualified professionals. The restoration of an asset belonging to the local artistic heritage can be an opportunity to promote events; the organization of a museum can entail artistic, performing and anthropological skills; civic and religious events require interdisciplinary managerial and planning competencies as well as a solid basic knowledge; recurring festivals and events need long-lasting management and planning skills; the development of secondary television activities requires new qualified personnel to support the production teams; the network system depends on people with developed management skills; the growing production of concerts and live music events requires high-level organizational skills; the major interest toward fashion and “Made in Italy” brand in Tuscany highlights the need for professionals able to organize specific events; tourism itself, which is of the utmost importance in Tuscany, requires new creative and inventive resources for its improvement.
Further job opportunities are related to performing arts activities within theatres, film, and music studios; they include production assistant for theatre companies or on film and television sets; stage manager in opera and drama theatres; PR consultant and press officer; front of house manager; cinema manager; film library keeper; curator or artistic director for performing arts, music and film festivals; marketing managers; safety manager, etc.
Graduates can directly enroll to the Master's Degree Course in LM65 - SCIENZE DELLO SPETTACOLO; the degree course in Produzione di Spettacolo Musica Arte, Arte tessile (Pro.S.M.Ar.T.) is taught in Prato.
